As much as I LOVE having total control, I love myself and my life more now that I have relinquished control and I allow others to do what they do best.

What I realized when reviewing my “blurb” was that consistancy is actually the key to ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that we set out to do in business (and in life!). If you send out one postcard or one ezine or one Twitter post per 3 months (that used to be me!) to market your business, guess what your success rate will be? Somewhere between 0-1%. Consistency in running your business is key. Just like you must pay your cell phone balance every month, you must also market, strategize, send out your bills, schedule yourself and more every month.

Identify everything in your business that you put on the back burner for even a day longer than you should. That’s where delegation needs to begin. Your assistant can take on those important tasks and handle them on a consistent basis.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have recently added to my team. I now delegate things that I WAS doing (and it was sucking up my time and energy) and things that I WAS NOT doing (and should have been). After just a very short time, change in my businesses is already noticeable.

I will share the biggest/best thing/thing that floored me the most and made me the most excited about sharing with you…

Web site traffic to my business websites has increased nearly 70% since my team started handling some of my marketing for me. 70%. Is. HUGE! As an aside, are you tracking traffic to your website(s)? If not, consider adding Google Analytics to each page of your site - very handy!

What do I take away from this experience / observation? A reinforcement that delegation gets your business moving forward faster. Your business runs smoother and more efficiently. More gets done because you aren’t doing it.

Get out of your own way and start delegating - it works!

When I talk to business owners one on one, I figure out exactly the areas that they need to start delegating in their business. If someone is struggling with piles of paper up to the ceiling in their office (seriously), it would be silly for me to suggest they look for a Virtual Assistant that potentially lives and works anywhere in the world. It sounds more to me like a local VA or perhaps a very part time administrative employee or even a professional organizer may be the areas we should explore to address the delegation needs in front of us.

Another example: If a business owner has lots of needs that may require a team of professionals to help and they are putting it off because they don’t want to take on the time investment of managing the team, I suggest we look at Online Business Managers that might be a good fit and then the OBM can take on the role of managing the team.

Another example: If a business owner wants an ongoing collaboration with one person that loves handling a wealth of administrative duties and absolutely can’t wait to wear a few hats each day to get everything taken care of for their clients, this is screaming to me that we need to look into Virtual Assistance options for them.

Long story short, never ever let fear of the unknown keep you from delegating. I guarantee there is a delegation solution for every business owner reading this!

Example: I delegate techy stuff to three different people. Everyone has their “stuff” that they do amazingly well and love to do. I, on the other hand, do nothing techy very well!

Another example: I have a team member that excels in marketing, joint ventures, and affiliates. There is not enough time in the day for me (or you!) to handle this stuff in your business - instead, hand it off to someone else to handle with care for you!

Yet another example: I have a team member that is fabulous in managing time and people - in this case: ME! You will not believe how much time you spend trading emails with people trying to fill your schedule with appointments - so much time that you barely have time to actually participate in the appointments! Put together a system that you and your assistant are comfortable with and let them run this part of your show for you…

One final very important note on this topic. There have been times in my business when I needed very, very minimal help in my business - particularly in the early stages. That’s 200% natural, ok and where you should start with delegating. Find someone that you like and trust (see me if you need help in this department) and figure out what’s going to work for the two of you. Start small and grow. Just take the step and DO IT - you will not believe how fast things start picking up for you and your business and before long you will step back and say: wow, I have a team!
